OTFT – Transistors

Description

Organic Thin Film Transistor (OTFT) technology involves the use of semiconductor organic compounds in electronic components, especially computer displays.

Advantages

  • Cost. Organic screens have always been relatively cheap but were slow in terms of wearer mobility. This slow mobility of the wearer means a slow response time, which limits the ability of a screen to represent movement. However, new research has developed a process to grow organic crystals with carrier mobility that rivals that of traditional TFT materials.

  • The mechanical flexibility of organic materials makes them naturally compatible with plastic substrates for lightweight and foldable products.

  • Fabrication. Their fabrication processes are much less complex compared with conventional

Applications

  • Organic substrates allow displays to be manufactured on flexible surfaces, rather than rigid materials, as is necessary in traditional TFT displays. A piece of flexible plastic can be coated with OTFT material and made into a screen that can be handled like a paper document.

  • Great potential for a wide variety of applications, especially for new products that rely on their unique characteristics, such as electronic newspapers, inexpensive smart tags for inventory control, and large-area flexible displays.
