Intermediate

An intermediate, in chemistry, refers to a compound or substance that is formed during the course of a chemical reaction and is subsequently used as a reactant or transformed into a final product. Intermediates are transient species that exist for a short period of time and are involved in the gradual progression of a chemical reaction.
TEBS ([(3-thienyl)ethyloxy-4-butylsulfonate sodium salt]) is an example of an intermediate that is used in various organic synthesis processes.
